The Washington State Law Enforcement Association Essay Contest

The 23rd annual 8th grade Washington State Law Enforcement Association Essay Contest is kicking off.  The basic goals of WSLEA are to improve the effectiveness and professionalism of law enforcement in Washington State and to implement or support a wide range of community related programs and services. WSLEA encourages all schools to participate and stimulate discussion about this important subject, “Why I will Say NO to Alcohol & Drugs”. Total prize of $2750 amount will be give to the winning candidates.

The Washington State Law Enforcement Association is dedicated to ensuring the vitality of the chosen profession, Law Enforcement, for the benefit of its members and the safety of the citizens of the State of Washington through professional development, community involvement, and legislative affairs.

Eligibility:

The contest is open to any student who is enrolled in a Washington eighth-grade class during the 2016-2017 school year.

How to Apply:

To be enter in essay contest, the candidates are required to submit an essay on the theme: Why I will say NO to Alcohol & Drugs?

Essay Guidelines:

  • The essay must be less than 750 words. Any entry received with more than 750 words will be disqualified. The essays may be either typewritten or legibly handwritten.
  • All entries must be submitted with an entry form and must be signed by the student. The form is on the back of this pamphlet and can be photocopied by the school. 5
  • For each school participating in the contest, the WSLEA requests that the school principal or class instructor select and submit only the three best essays from all eighth-grade students who have submitted their work.

Supporting Documents:

A statement from the parent/guardian, teacher or school principal must accompany each entry attesting that to the best of his/her knowledge, the essay was written unaided (except for appropriate research and reference). A single statement from a teacher or principal is sufficient for a group of entries submitted from the same class or school.

  • Grand Prize: $500
  • 5 First Place: $200
  • 5 Second Place: $150
  • 5 Third Place: $100

Application Deadline:
