Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships

Lace up those (men& women) sneakers, basketball fans! North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives accept applications from middle-school students for all-expense-paid scholarships to summer basketball camps at the University of North Carolina and N.C. State University annually. Students who are rising sixth, seventh or eighth graders at a qualifying school in North Carolina can apply to attend the camp scholarships. The purpose of the program is to provide a unique educational and athletic opportunity for their state’s youth and demonstrates Touchstone Energy’s core values of accountability, integrity, innovation and particularly, commitment to the community. More than 50 scholarships will be awarded to students statewide.

North Carolina’s Electric Cooperatives provide reliable, safe and affordable energy and related services to more than 950,000 households and businesses in 93 of North Carolina’s 100 counties. Each of the 26 cooperatives is member-owned, not-for-profit and overseen by a board of directors elected by the membership.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply,

  • Young women entering sixth, seventh or eighth grades are eligible for the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp scholarship.
  • Young men entering sixth, seventh or eighth grades are eligible for the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp Scholarship.
  • To find out if your school is eligible, contact your local electric cooperative. Contact information for all 26 electric cooperatives in North Carolina and details about the Touchstone Energy Sports Camp Scholarships can be found at ncelectriccooperatives.com
  • All applicants must have a parent/guardian’s signature on the parental/guardian consent portion of this application in order to be eligible for the scholarship.
  • Criteria for the contest include:
  1. Originality and accuracy of written essay: 55 percent
  2. Scholastic and extracurricular activities: 40 percent
  3. Short answer question: 5 percent

The scholarships send 26 young women to the N.C. State University Women’s Basketball Camp in Raleigh and 26 young men to the Roy Williams Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Financial Aid and Award Money:

  • Each winner will receive an all-expense-paid scholarship to attend the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at N.C. State University during the summer of 2017.
  • Each winner will receive an all-expense-paid scholarship to attend the Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Saturday, June 17 – Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

Application Deadline:

  • The application period for 2017 scholarships is now open. Scholarship applications will be due on March 31. Applicants can expect to be notified of contest results by May 1.
  • The Roy Williams Carolina Basketball session is scheduled for June 17-21 for young men.
  • The Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 11-14 for young women.
