The SDABJ Scholarship

The San Diego Association of Black Journalists offers three scholarships named as “High School Senior Scholarship” “Community College Scholarship” and “Ozzie Roberts Scholarship”. These scholarships are available to high school seniors, Community college students, and 4-Year university students. You can choose scholarship according to your eligibility. Scholarships are designed to expanding job opportunities and recruiting activities for veteran, young and aspiring black journalists while providing continued professional development and training. The awards of $1000, $300 and $1500 award will be given for High school students, Community college students, and university students respectively.

The San Diego Association of Black Journalists (SDABJ), a 501(c) (3) organization, is the newest chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). NABJ is an organization of journalists, students and communications (public affairs, media relations, and community relations) professional that provides quality programs and services to and advocates on behalf of black journalists worldwide.

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria is given below:

  • High school seniors who are interested in majoring in journalism and/or mass communication at a four-year college or university.
  • Students who are either currently enrolled or looking to attend community college, taking journalism courses, and interested in pursuing a career as a journalist.
  • Student currently enrolled in a four-year college or university who is majoring or minoring in journalism and/or mass communication.

Financial Aid and Award Money:     

  • High school students will receive $1,000 (2 available)
  • Community college students will receive $300 (1 available)
  • 4-Year university students will receive $1,500 (1 available)
