The Junior League of Washington (JLW) is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for the Meg Graham Scholarship…Celebrating Service and Leadership. The scholarship award is created in memory of the late Reverend Margaret M. Graham, a former member of JLW and former president of the Association of Junior Leagues International. The $10,000 scholarship award will be given to a high school senior student who has demonstrated outstanding voluntarism with funds for college education expenses.
The Junior League of Washington (JLW) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable
Eligibility:
- Applications for the scholarship are accepted from any high school senior who is a DC resident attends a public, charter, private, or parochial high school in DC, and is matriculating to an accredited, four-year, post-secondary college or university in the fall of 2017.
- She must have an outstanding volunteer service record, be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA, and show the promise of continued success.

Supporting Documents:
- Official school transcript to date, demonstrating a minimum of a cumulative 3.0 GPA and reflecting volunteer hours.
- Acceptance letter(s) from an accredited, four-year, postsecondary institution, the acceptance letter does not necessarily need to come from the institution to which you are matriculating. If necessary, you may submit this part of your application electronically by email to scholarship-at-jlw.org with your name in the subject line. Be sure to indicate on your paper application that the acceptance letter will be sent electronically.
- Two letters of recommendation:
- One from a faculty member of your high school, preferably someone who has taught you in the past two years and is familiar with your academic achievements; and
- One from a supervisor or sponsor of a volunteer service project, preferably the project discussed in your essay (see #6 below).
- List of all volunteer activities, extracurricular activities, and jobs from grades 9 – 12
- ‘List of all extracurricular activities and jobs (grades 9 – 12).
- A 250-word essay on “My Most Meaningful Volunteer Experience.”
- Clearly identify the organization or volunteer project to which you are referring and state the approximate date of the volunteer experience.
- Your essay should help us get to know you, and why voluntarism is important to you. Why did you choose this experience? What did you learn from volunteering? Is there a connection between your volunteer experience and your educational or career path?
- The impact this experience had on you should be clear and convincing. Please be specific about how it was different from other experiences you have had.
- A 250-word essay entitled “My Personal Goal Statement.”
- Please make clear your intended course of study and/or your desired post-college career goal.
- This essay is also an opportunity to showcase something special about yourself. What drives you? What unique experiences or accomplishments are you most proud of?
- What experience(s) helped solidify your decision? Is there a family member, teacher or mentor who exposed you to this field of study?
