The SENS Research Foundation is now offering the “SRF Summer Scholars Program” to undergraduate students. The SRF program offers the opportunity to conduct biomedical research to combat diseases of aging, such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s disease. Under the guidance of a scientific mentor, each Summer Scholar is responsible for his or her own research project in such areas as genetic engineering and stem cell research.At the end of the summer, students will have the opportunity to put all of their newly developed communication skills into practice at a student symposium.
SENS Research Foundation (SRF) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization focused on transforming the way the world researches and treats age-related disease. Education is an essential component of the SRF mission, allowing us to accelerate the pace of turning laboratory discoveries into real-world health benefits.
Eligibility:
The eligibility requirement for SRF Summer Scholar applicants varies slightly depending on the host country. Review the following explanations to verify which positions to which you may apply.
For positions based in the United States:
- Currently, must be enrolled at a university in the U.S.
- Only students who are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree or students who received their undergraduate degree during 2017 are eligible for the 2017 SRF Summer Scholars Program.
- Students currently enrolled in masters, doctoral, or other postgraduate programs are not eligible. Special circumstances, such as established exchange programs, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Must be eligible to receive a stipend for your work:
- In all cases, it will be incumbent upon the student to provide the necessary documentation to participate, not SRF or the host institution.
- Students who are studying abroad in the U.S. will need to participate in the Summer Scholars Program through a Curricular Practical Training (CPT) for off-campus employment (or a similar program that fulfills the work visa requirements).
For the position based at the University of Oxford:
- At the time you submit the application, you must be currently enrolled in a degree-granting program.
- In addition, you cannot currently possess a degree. This program is intended for undergraduate students only. However, a student who is currently pursuing a master, doctoral, or similar degree is eligible to apply to the Summer Scholars Program, provided s/he does not currently possess a B.A., B.S., or another degree at the time of application submission.
- Be able to travel to the United Kingdom
- The University of Oxford can provide a work visa for international applicants. Enrollments at a UK-based university or citizenship within the European Union are no longer prerequisites to apply to this position.

- The Summer Scholars Program emphasizes the development of both laboratory and communication skills to develop well-rounded future scientists, healthcare professionals, and policy makers.
- Students participating in the program will hone their writing skills via periodic reports, which are designed to emulate text scientists commonly must produce.
- Students will have the opportunity to put all of their newly developed communication skills into practice at a student symposium.
