SMUD Powering Futures Scholarship

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) pleased to offer “SMUD Powering Futures Scholarship Program”. The scholarship is open to current high school senior or graduate, have earned a GED certificate, or currently be a postsecondary undergraduate student. SMUD support the community through sponsorships, education, beautification and recreational facilities. 21 scholarships of up to $5,000 each will be awarded by the SMUD o the winning candidates.

The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) provides electricity to Sacramento County, California, and a small portion of adjacent Placer County. It is one of the ten largest publicly owned utilities in the United States, generating the bulk of its power through the natural gas (estimated 56% of production total in 2009) and large hydroelectric generation plants (22% in 2009). SMUD’s green power (renewable) energy output was estimated as 19% in 2009.

Eligibility:

The list eligibility criteria are given below:

  • Be a current high school senior or graduate, have earned a GED certificate, or currently be a postsecondary undergraduate student.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0, based on a 4.0 scale.
  • Plan to enroll in an accredited 2 or 4-year college/university in the U.S. in the fall of 2017.
  • Be an SMUD customer living in SMUD’s service area, or have an SMUD customer as a legal guardian.

Financial Aid and Award Money:             

SMUD provided up to $60,000 in college scholarships for local students. As many as 21 local students may receive up to $5,000 each in scholarships.

Application Deadline: 

Completed applications must be submitted by June 23, 2017.
