Scholarship Program

Applications are invited for highly competitive P.E.O. STAR Scholarship that is sponsored by P.E.O., a philanthropic organization.  The scholarship is open to graduating high school senior women who demonstrate outstanding leadership, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and community service. A non-renewable $2,500 scholarship will be given to the winning candidate that must be used in the academic year following graduation or it will be forfeited.

P.E.O. is a philanthropic organization where women celebrate the advancement of women, educate women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and stewardship of Cottey College and motivate women to achieve their highest aspirations.

Eligibility:

A woman is eligible to be recommended for the P.E.O. STAR Scholarship if she:

  • Exhibits excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service and potential for future success
  • Is in the final academic year (senior year) of her secondary education and  is 20 years of age or under at the end of the calendar year
  • Has a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Is a citizen or legal permanent resident of the United States or Canada
  • Plans to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the United States or Canada, full-time or part-time, in the fall of the academic year following high school graduation
  • Is recommended by and receives the vote of a local P.E.O. chapter

How to Apply:

  • When a local chapter identifies a prospective applicant, the local STAR Scholarship chairman will arrange an interview to assess eligibility. If the chapter votes to recommend the applicant, the chairman oversees the online application process.
  • The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship application is an online submission. After your recommending chapter has completed and submitted a recommendation form and letter online, you will be sent an email with instructions and a link to create your STAR online account. You will log into this account with the username and password you entered when creating the account.
  • The chapter will advise the applicant that she will be emailed instructions for setting up her online account to complete her portion of the application. You will be able to complete the required forms, compose an essay, send emails requesting letters of reference and electronically submit everything to the P.E.O. Executive Office.

Supporting Documents:

The following must be submitted online no later than 30 calendar days after the applicant has received a link with instructions to set up her online account.

  • The Student Profile,
  • Student Activity Charts, original one-page essay,
  • Two reference letters, and
  • Unofficial high school transcript (through the 11th grade/junior year)

Application Deadline:

Each applicant has 30 calendar days to complete and electronically submit her application from the date she receives the link to establish her online account.

Award Amount:

A one-time gift of USD $2,500 may be designated as a Named Scholarship in honor or memory of an individual or chapter.
