NBI Law Student Fellowship Program

The National Bar Institute (NBI) is proud to announce the NBI Law Student Fellowship Program.The Institute is particularly interested in receiving applications from students who want to present a plan for addressing problems in the communities. The students who have at least two consecutive years of full-time law student experience are eligible to apply. The program is designed to assist students who are completing professional law degrees. The NBI awards law student fellowships annually to qualified students. The program will worth award range from $1,000 to $10,000.

The National Bar Institute (NBI) was established in 1982 as the philanthropic arm of the National Bar Association (NBA).The National Bar Association was founded in 1925 and is the nation’s oldest and largest national network of predominantly African-American attorneys and judges.As a 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt non-profit organization, contributions to the NBI are tax-deductible.

Eligibility:

The NBI Law Student Fellowship Program invites applications from law students who:

  • Have demonstrated a commitment to pursuing equality and justice through work in their law schools, their neighborhoods, and community
  • Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents
  • Are carrying a full-time class load at an accredited U.S. law school
  • Have at least two consecutive years of full-time law student experience and will complete graduation requirements within two semesters
  • Intend to return to a community to practice law once their legal training is completed.

Financial Aid and Award Money:

Fellowships range from $1,000 to $10,000 depending on the availability of funds.

The annual application period each year opens February 1st through May 15. Notification letters will be sent by August 31st of each year.
