Mark A. Whitt Scholarship

Akron Bar Association is pleased to announce the Mark A. Whitt Scholarship. The scholarship is available for a full-time or part-time students who exemplifie the qualities of determination, perseverance and “grit” in their pursuit of a law degree. The applicants will select on the basis of their personal statement and an interview. $5,000 scholarship award will be given to the deserving candidate. The scholarship award may be used to cover tuition, fees, books, and room and board, all or in part.

The Mark A. Whitt Scholarship Fund was established in 2015 with a gift from alumnus Mark A. Whitt. The purpose of offering scholarship assistance is to a student exemplifying the qualities of determination, perseverance and “grit” in their pursuit of a law degree.

Eligibility:

  • First-generation college graduates, students with learning disabilities and addicts in recovery, single parents, and students who are living with or have overcome similar adversity, are eligible to apply
  • Full-time or part-time student who exemplifies the qualities of determination, perseverance and “grit” in their pursuit of a law degree

How to Apply:

For applying the scholarship, the candidates must submit a personal statement explaining the obstacles they have confronted, how they overcame those obstacles, and the advice they would give to an aspiring law student faced with similar obstacles

Submitting Details:

You can submit your application to Lia Evans, Director of Alumni and Development. Applications may be submitted via e-mail (LiaEvans-at-uakron.edu) or by dropping off a hard copy at the reception desk in the Dean’s Office.

Award Amount:

$5,000 in scholarship assistance will be given to the winning candidate.

Application Deadline:

The complete application packet must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 2.
