The Lewis Center for the Arts at Princeton University is pleased to announce the Hodder Fellowship.To apply for the fellowship, there is no need to be a U.S. citizen.The program is intended to artists of exceptional promise to pursue independent projects at Princeton University during the 2018-2019 academic year.In order to apply, the applicant must describe their artistic project and what they plan to do during the fellowship’s 10-month appointment.The Hodder is designed to provide Fellows with the “studious leisure” to undertake significant new work.The Hodder is a one-year fellowship of financial support.The fellows will receive up to $81,000 for one 10-month academic year.
The Lewis Center is named in honor of the late Peter B. Lewis (1933 – 2013).The Lewis Center for the Arts is designed to put the creative and performing arts at the heart of the Princeton experience.This mission is based on the conviction that exposure to the arts, particularly to the experience of producing art, helps each of us to make sense of our lives and the lives of our neighbors.
Eligibility:
To apply for the fellowship, the applicants no need to be a U.S. citizen. Non-US citizens are welcome to apply.

Supporting Documents:
- Resume/C.V.
- Project proposal of 500 words- Describe your artistic project and what you plan to do during the fellowship’s 10-month appointment.
- If you are a writer, include: 3,000-word writing sample of recent work (for poetry – 20 to 30 pages of work)
- If you are a performance artist, include Examples of ten minutes (total) of performance through the link(s) to sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Flicker, etc.
- If you are a visual artist, include: up to 20 still images organized into a single PDF file
- If you are a musician, include 1-2 scores and/or Examples of ten minutes (total) of performance through the link(s) to sites such as YouTube, Vimeo, Flicker, etc.
Financial Aid and Award Money:
- Hodder Fellows spend an academic year at Princeton, but no formal teaching is involved.
- An $81,000 stipend is provided for this 10-month appointment as a Visiting Fellow.
- Given the strength of the applicant pool, most successful Fellows have published the first book or have similar achievements in their own fields
