The LAGRANT Foundation Scholarship

The LAGRANT Foundation is now accepting application for its 2017 Scholarship Program. TLF scholarship program is open to undergraduate students (current freshmen, sophomores, juniors and non-graduating seniors only) and graduate students. Students must be attending four-year accredited institutions in the U.S. and majoring in the fields of advertising, marketing or public relations. The LAGRANT Foundation (TLF) will award 40 scholarships in 2017 and scholarship recipients will also receive a trip to Detroit where they will participate in career building activities.

The LAGRANT Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Its goal is to open the proverbial door for minorities by providing the necessary resources and tools not commonly available to many minorities entering the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Must be a member of one of the following ethnic groups: African American/Black, Asian American/Pacific Islander, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/Alaska Native
  • Must be a full-time student at a four-year, accredited institution within the U.S., carrying a total of 12 units or more per semester/quarter
  • Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Must major in a field of study that has an emphasis on advertising, marketing or public relations
  • Must have at least one year to complete his/her degree from the time the scholarships are awarded in May 2017
  • Recipients must be available to participate in the scholarship activities from May 21-23, 2017. If chosen, the applicant MUST attend TLF’s scholarship activities as noted at top of page to receive professional guidance and academic support
  • If chosen, the applicant must attend TLF’s scholarship activities to receive the scholarship. The applicant must make a one-year commitment to maintain contact with TLF to receive professional guidance and academic support

How to Apply:

  • Application must be typed or it will not be accepted. Before uploading and submitting your application online, all supporting documents (this includes your unofficial transcript and letter of recommendation) must be combined and saved into one PDF

Supporting Documents:

  • A reference letter from a college professor or internship advisor
  • Your current resume
  • Unofficial transcripts from your college/university. If you are selected as a finalist, you must provide official transcripts.
  • Headshot photo of applicant
  • Application form, which includes all of the following components. The following essay questions should be answered on separate pages:
  1. A one to two-page essay outlining your career goals and what steps you will take to increase the lack of ethnic representation in the fields of advertising, marketing and public relations. In addition, you must define the role of an advertising, marketing or public relations practitioner (as it relates to your career goals). You can include accomplishments relevant to increasing awareness about diversity in your community.
  2. A brief paragraph explaining college and/or community activities in which you are involved in
  3. A brief paragraph describing any honors and awards that you have received
  4. Optional: If you do not think your GPA accurately reflects your scholastic capability and achievement, then draft an essay no longer than one-page explaining the discrepancy
  5. An acceptance letter from your college/university may be used as a substitute for unofficial transcripts if you are an incoming freshman for the fall

Award Amount:

  • 20 undergraduate ethnically diverse minority undergraduate students will receive scholarships of $2,500 each and 20 graduate students will receive scholarships of $5,000 each.
  • Scholarship recipients will receive a trip to Detroit where they will participate in career building activities including a welcome dinner with a keynote speaker, two daylong career & professional development workshops and a scholarship & donor recognition reception.

Application Deadline:

The deadline is Tuesday, February 28, 2017 5:00 pm PST. If your application is submitted after the deadline, it will not be considered.
