To eligible, the applicant must pursue any graduate degree at Stanford, from PhDs in arts, education, engineering, humanities, or social sciences to professional degrees in business, law, or medicine. The purpose of the program is to prepare a new generation of leaders with a deep academic foundation and the skills to develop creative solutions to effect positive change in the world”. The winners will receive full funding includes tuition, stipend, graduate program and related academic expenses, with additional financial support to pursue a graduate education at Stanford.

Eligibility:
You are eligible to apply to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program:
- If you are applying to enroll in a full-time graduate degree program at Stanford (e.g., JD, MA, MBA, MD, MS, or D.)
- If you plan on pursuing one of Stanford’s many joints- and dual- graduate degree options (e.g., MD+PhD, JD+MA, MBA+MS).
- Students who earned a bachelor’s degree in 2013 or later are eligible to apply to the pioneer class of Knight-Hennessy Scholars.
- Citizens of all countries are eligible to apply to the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program
How to Apply:

Supporting Documents:
- An unofficial or self-reported transcript
- Scores on standardized tests
- Resume / C.V.
- Two recommendation letters.
- Two personal essays:
- These reflections give them a chance to understand who you are and how you aspire to grow and learn. There are two prompts: How the influences in your life have shaped you & Describe three potential paths for your career and life. To prepare for them, what do you need to learn at Stanford as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar
- While there are no word limits for these questions, most applicants will find a range of 750 to 1,750 words sufficient.
- Two short-answer responses: These responses help to see a different side of you. They’ll ask you two questions:
- Tell them eight improbable facts about you.
- If you could take a course or study with any instructor at Stanford, what would you take or with whom would you study, and why? (And no, you can’t pick John Hennessy. You’ll already spend plenty of time with John as a Knight-Hennessy Scholar.)
- A video submission. We would love to interview every applicant, but it’s not feasible. Instead, we will allow you to submit a video of no more than two minutes.
- In-person assessment.
- Applicants must apply separately to Stanford.
Financial Aid and Award Money:
- Each year up to 100 high-achieving students (50 in the first year) who are independent thinkers, display purposeful leadership, and have a civic orientation will receive full funding to pursue a graduate education at Stanford.
- Full funding includes tuition, stipend, graduate program and related academic expenses, with additional financial support available.
Application Deadline:
The pioneer class of Knight-Hennessy Scholars will apply by September 27, 2017, at 1:00 pm (Pacific Time)and enroll in fall 2018.
