The Juniper Networks Engineering Scholarship

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation is glad to offer The Juniper Networks Engineering Scholarship for graduating high school seniors with demonstrated success in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education courses, which are planning to major in engineering. The scholarship program provides support to residents of California, Virginia, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Canada. The committee seeks to identify young leaders with the potential to take on the toughest challenges facing our communities, to connect and empower people everywhere, and make a meaningful difference in our communities. Up to 10 winners will be selected and each will receive $5,000 one-time scholarship award.

Eligibility:

  • Demonstrated success in STEM education courses (science, technology, engineering, and math)
  • Planning to major in engineering. Preference will be given to students pursuing majors in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering and computer networking.
  • Graduating high school senior residing in San Mateo County and Santa Clara County in California; Fairfax County, Loudoun County, and Prince Williams County in Virginia; Middlesex County and Worcester County in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Ottawa West (Kanata, Nepean, Bell’s Corners, Stittsville, Dunrobin, Richmond, Fitzroy) in Ontario, Canada
  • Minimum cumulative high school grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 U.S. scale or ? 70% on Ontario, Canada grading scale
  • Intention to enroll full-time in four-year university or college
  • Demonstrated community involvement over a period of several years
  • The United States or Canadian citizen or legal resident

How to Apply:

 Supporting Documents: 

  • STEM-related Personal Statement (PDF or Word doc): Title the statement with your full name and date at the top of every page. Your personal statement must be 300-850 words, double-spaced (approximately 1-3 pages), and must address the following prompts:
  1. Discuss your intended major and career goals within the specific STEM field that you are interested in, and any factors that influenced your interest in that area.
  2. Comment on your personal characteristics, the educational and extracurricular activities that have helped prepare you for a major and career in your specific field of interest within STEM.
  3. Reflect on your personal journey (significant accomplishments, challenges, and/or hardships) and any life lessons that you think will help you succeed in your stated major and profession.
  4. Describe why you believe you are a good candidate for this scholarship.
  • Financial Need Documentation (PDF): Evidence of financial need must be submitted to Apply SVCF for all SVCF Managed Scholarships accordingly:
  • Two Letters of Recommendation (PDF): Your two letters of recommendation must be signed and dated. One should be a teacher or academic advisor on school letterhead. And second Volunteer or work supervisor, community leader or personal acquaintance.
  • Official Transcripts of Grades (Submit both PDFs and hard copies): Upload PDF versions of your transcripts to apply SVCF AND mail original hard copies.
  • Current Graduating High School Seniors: Submit an official high school transcript and official college transcripts, if applicable.
  • Current College Students: Submit official college transcript(s) and unofficial high school transcript(s).
  • International Students: Submit official transcripts from your academic institution — both in their original language and in English (if transcripts were not originally issued in English).

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation offers up to ten scholarships up to $5,000 for deserving candidates.
