The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation is pleased to offer James Madison Graduate Fellowship to individuals, who have planned to become a teacher, of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7–12). The goal of the fellowship is to help secondary level history, government, and social studies teachers to become an outstanding educator of the U.S. constitution. James Madison Graduate Fellowship offers $24,000 award to the deserving candidates.
The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation was established by Congress in 1986 for the purpose of improving teaching about the United States Constitution in secondary schools.
Eligibility:
Fellowship applicants compete only against other applicants from the states of their legal residence. To be eligible to apply for a fellowship, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a teacher, or plan to become a teacher, of American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level (grades 7–12).
- Possess a bachelor’s degree or plan to receive a bachelor’s degree no later than August 31 of the year in which you are applying

Financial Aid and Award Money:
- The Foundation plans to offer one fellowship per state per year. $24,000 James Madison Graduate Fellowships will be given to the winning candidates.
- Payments are made only for the actual costs of tuition, required fees, and books, and are made only for the minimum number of credits required for the award of the degree for which a Fellow is registered.
