James Dyson Award Program

Take the next step toward your career goals by applying for “The James Dyson Award” which is awarded by James Dyson Foundation. James Dyson Award is an international award and open to current and recent design engineering students. The James Dyson Award celebrates and publicizes the work of young designers on a global platform. The foundation will award $2,500 (USD) to the national winners, $6,000 (USD) to the International runner-ups and $40,000 (USD) to the International winners and plus $6,000 for their university.

The James Dyson Foundation is dedicated to encouraging young people to think differently, make mistakes, invent and realize their engineering potential. The James Dyson Foundation aims to encourage the next generation of design engineers.

Eligibility:

All Scholarship applicants must be:

  • Must be, or have been within the last four years, enrolled for at least one semester in an undergraduate or graduate engineering or design program at a university in a country chosen to participate in the James Dyson Award.
  • In the case of team entries, at least one team member must meet the above criteria and register as the team leader.
  • All other members of the team must be or have been within the last four years, enrolled for at least one semester in an undergraduate or graduate program at a university in a country chosen to participate in the James Dyson Award.

Supporting Documents:

If you are interested in the position, your application should include:

  • Description of your design – the inspiration behind it, the development process you took, and the overall function of the design. You will need to provide the descriptions in English and your native language (if different to English).
  • Images portraying the development of your design – early sketches, CAD renderings, initial prototypes, and the finished product on a white background. Each image should be at least 1MB but no more than 3MB.
  • A video is strongly recommended, but not essential. The video should be less than 3 minutes and show both the development process of the design and your prototype in action. You will need to upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo first.

Financial Aid and Award Money:             

  • International Winner:
  1. $40,000 (USD) to the student or student team
  2. $6,000 (USD) to the student(s)’ university department
  3. James Dyson Award certificate
  • International Runners-Up (up to two):
  1. $6,000 (USD) to the student or student team
  2. James Dyson Award certificate
  • National Winner (one from each region):
  1. $2,500 (USD) to the student or student team
  2. James Dyson Award certificate
  • National Finalists (up to four from each region):
  1. James Dyson Award certificate

Application Deadline: 

The scholarship application will open on March 30, 2017, and the deadline to apply is July 20, 2017.
