Connecther Stand up Men Award

With so much despair in the world, Connecther’s goal is to give hope to and collectively work to make a difference in the lives of as many women and children as possible. Hence, they are offering ‘Stand up Men’ Award for its Girls Impact the World Film Festival and accepting submissions of 3-6 minute short films presented by Connecther.org & Eloise DeJoria. This contest is open to 8th graders, high school and college undergraduate students who are under the age of 25. The Connecther’s want to start a conversation in support of women’s rights among male athletes, artists and all men who are taking a stand. The winner will receive $2,500 and film distribution opportunities.

Connecther’s is a nonprofit organization, Connecther’s founder, Lila Igram, has long had a vision for aiding women in this quest by utilizing social networks for global good. The Connecther platform was specifically developed to use social networks to maximize donor’s giving and to create the greatest social impact for women in need.

Eligibility:

For eligibility requirements, the candidates must meet all the following criteria:

  • Applicant(s) must be 25 or under on December 31, 2016 (special circumstances may be considered)
  • Currently enrolled undergraduates (global)
  • Full-time high school students
  • The GITW Film Fest Competition is not open to any resident of the following countries: U.S. export regulations prohibit the export of goods and services to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria. Therefore residents of these countries/regions are not eligible to participate.
  • Sponsor prizes including Green IS, Honest Beauty & Innovation Prize are chosen by sponsors and may include films directed and produced by graduate students.
  • Each individual applicant may be involved in the making of up to two films. You may not enter more than two films.

How to Apply:

  • To be applying, interested candidate can enter video on the GITW entry submission page on the given link: http://www.connecther.org/gitw/enter
  • Submit your original 3 to 6-minute film on any man you know who is taking a stand to prevent violence against women and/or standing up for women’s rights.
  1. You may want to profile and interview athletes who are getting involved in this issue, who are changing attitudes and preventing violence against women.
  2. You may want to profile men who are working to unlearn gender bias.
  3. You may want to explore ideas such as: What is the best way for men to stand in support of women without co-opting the conversation of male violence against women?
  4. You might want to address what role male musicians and artists play in tackling the rampant objectification of women in media or you may want to profile a male musician who is taking a stand against misogynistic lyrics.
  • Videos must either:
  1. Raise awareness about critical issues affecting women and girls around the world OR
  2. Propose solutions to critical challenges faced by women

Film Guideline:

  • Your film should be between 3 and 6 minutes long. (see FAQ for exact length requirements)
  • Your film must contain the provide End Marker still image.
  • Your film can be a (1) narrative, (2) documentary, (3) investigative reporting, (4) music video, (5) animation, or (6) curated film (film collage). Please see the FAQ for more details about film genres and film content.
  • Your film must be created after January 1, 2016.
  • Your film must be your own original work and not infringe any copyright or ownership agreements.
  • You must not premiere your film before entering it on the Girls Impact the World website.
  • You may only be involved with two submitted entries per year.
  • Once you have submitted your video, please share and publicize it through the Girls Impact the World Gallery page. This is intended to help you further the number of facebook likes, tweets, and views for the People’s Choice Grand Prize.
  • At the end of your film please add a slide that shows at least 2 or more organizations that are working on solutions to the issue area that you address in your short film. You can highlight Connecther projects and/or other organizations. (optional but recommended)

Financial Aid and Award Money:

Submit your film to win $2,500 prize and internship opportunities.

Application Deadline:

The application submission deadline is March 1, 2017.
