Change a Life Foundation is offering Scholarship Program to Graduating public high school seniors. It is designed to bridge the financial gap for college-bound students. Scholarships assist economically disadvantaged students who excel academically to attend the university or college of their choice. Scholarships are awarded up to $5,000 for unmet university expenses in the areas of tuition, housing, meal plan, books, and health insurance.
Change a Life Foundation provides support for critically needed assistance that promotes self-sufficiency and improves the quality of life.
Eligibility:
Change a Life Foundation Scholar:
- Weighted Grade Point Average of 3.5 or above from ninth grade to first semester of 12th grade
- Minimum SAT score of 1,500 or ACT score of 21
- Enrolled in and/or passed advanced placement course or community college courses
- Family income is below the HUD income guidelines
- U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident with green card
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills and responsibility (leadership/responsibility skills should be evident in the student essays and honor/activities/community service portion of the application)
- Evidence of extracurricular activities (school/community involvement/employment)
- A minimum of 40 hours of community service from ninth grade to the first semester of 12th grade
- Must graduate from an approved Change a Life Foundation public high school within the boundaries of Los Angeles County, San Diego County, and Orange County
Change a Life Foundation Emancipated/Formerly Foster Youth Scholars:
- 12th-grade student enrolling in a four-year College or University, or student currently attending a California Community College may apply when transferring to a four-year College or University (MUST have completed the number of units required, eligible/ready to transfer Fall 2017)
- Weighted Grade Point Average of 2.75 or above from ninth grade to first semester of 12th grade or 2.5 cumulative GPA from a Community College
- Minimum SAT score of 1,350 (not applicable for transfer students)
- Family income is below the HUD income guidelines (Please note that income information of parents or foster parents of emancipated youth is not required.)
- U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident with a green card
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills and responsibility (leadership/responsibility skills should be evident in the student essays and honor/activities/community service portion of the application)
- Evidence of extracurricular activities (school/community involvement/employment)
- Community Service
- Must apply through emancipated youth scholarship program, which is available to former foster youth throughout California
How to Apply:
To be entering in the scholarship program, the candidates must complete the Change a Life Foundation Online Application Form that will be available on January 17, 2016.
Supporting Documents:
- Two letters of recommendation from a teacher, college/guidance counselor, or mentor
- Digital photograph of applicant, preferably a headshot
- Transcript of grades
- Electronic Student Aid Report (SAR)
- SAT and/or ACT score verification
Financial Aid and Award Money:
- Change a Life Foundation Scholars award is up to $5,000
- Change a Life Foundation Emancipated/Formerly Foster Youth Scholars award is $5,000
Application Deadline:
Applications and all supplemental materials must be submitted online to Change a Life Foundation at the close of business, no later than 5:00 pm on March 16, 2017.
