Brian Bolton Graduate/Mature Student Essay Competition

The Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF) is pleased to introduce you “Brian Bolton Graduate/Mature Student Essay Competition”. The essay contest is open to North American graduate students up to age 30, or to undergraduate students ages 25-30. The purposes of the Freedom from Religion Foundation as stated in its bylaws, are to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church. The organization will provide total $7850 to the winning candidates and winners will also receive a school-year membership to FFRF, which includes a subscription to Freethought Today.

FFRF is a non-profit, educational organization. The purposes of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., as stated in its bylaws, are to promote the constitutional principle of separation of state and church, and to educate the public on matters relating to nontheism.

Eligibility:

Candidates for the Michael Hakeem Memorial College Essay Competition must demonstrate that they:

  • North American graduate students
  • Up to age 30, or to undergraduate students ages 25-30
  • You are also eligible to enter this contest if you will graduate by spring or summer of 2017.

  • Applicants must write a 600 – 750 words essay to be considered for the essay contest

Financial Aid and Award Money:

  • Brian Bolton First Place Award: $3,000
  • Second Place Award: $2,000
  • Third Place Award: $1,000
  • Fourth Place Award: $750
  • Fifth Place Award: $500
  • Sixth Place Award: $400
  • Optional Honorable Mention(s): $200

In addition to their scholarship, winners will receive a school-year membership to FFRF, which includes a subscription to Freethought Today.

Application Deadline: 

The application submission deadline for the scholarship is July 15, 2017.
