The Academic Challenge Program provides scholarships opportunity for those students who have a determination of higher education.The scholarship is available to students who are regardless of their academic status, whether just graduating from high school, currently enrolled in college, enrolling in college for the first time, or re-enrolling after a period of time out of college. The goal of this program is to provide meaningful financial help to the students.
The Department was originally established as the Commission on Coordinating Higher Education Finance in 1961. The Arkansas Department of Higher Education serves as the administrative staff for the Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board. The Department works closely with the public colleges and universities in Arkansas to promote higher education across the state.
Eligibility:
- To be eligible, candidates must be high school students who are currently enrolled in college or enrolling in college for the first time or re-enrolling after a period of time out of college.
- The applicant must be a citizen of the United States or a lawful permanent resident.

Supporting Documents:
Starting with the class of 2016, the only requirement is a 19 on the ACT or ACT equivalent score, FAFSA Required. https://fafsa.ed.gov/index.htm
Financial Aid and Award Money:
- The Arkansas General Assembly sets award’s amounts annually. Once determined, the amounts are posted on the ADHE website.
- Students who are initially awarded the Arkansas Challenge Scholarship for the 2014-2015 or 2015-2016 academic years will be awarded on a graduated schedule that is identical to 2013-2014.
