The American Political Science Association (APSA) is pleased to announce the Pracademic Fellowship Program that is administered by the Centennial Center for Political Science and Public Affairs.The fellowship program is designed to create opportunities for mid-career faculty members to participate in the important experience of joining theory and practice. The fellows will be placed in federal government agencies in the Washington, D.C. area. Fellows also will be assigned to work closely with a decision-maker involved in a program of their interest to get a first-hand vantage point of a decision-making environment.
The American Political Science Association (APSA) was founded in 1903, is the leading professional organization for the study of political science and serves more than 12,000 members in more than 80 countries. With a range of programs and services for individuals, departments, and institutions, APSA brings together political scientists from all fields of inquiry, regions, and occupational endeavors within and outside academe to deepen their understanding of politics, democracy, and citizenship throughout the world.
Eligibility:
- Faculty members from a range of departments and fields are eligible for the program, (e. g. faculty in political science departments, public administration, public management, public policy, federalism/IGR and related fields).
- The program is ideally suited for those applicants who are mid-career, likely at the associate professor level.

Supporting Documents:
Applications for the Pracademic Fellowship Program should include the following:
- A curriculum vitae
- A two-page statement that includes information about how this experience would contribute to the applicant’s teaching and research
- An explanation of the relationship between the individual’s research and the proposed experience
- A summary of any initial conversations with a host agency, organization, or host individual
- Two references (name and email contact info only)
Financial Aid and Award Money:
- The fellowship experience may take place over the course of either one semester or a full year, likely beginning in January 2018.
- Selected individuals will be placed in federal government agencies in the Washington, D.C. area.
- Selected individuals will be assigned to work closely with a decision-maker involved in a program of their interest to get a first-hand vantage point of a decision-making environment.
- Participation in the Pracademic Fellowship Program will enable faculty members to bring an enhanced understanding of real-world management challenges to their research and instructional environment.
- Past efforts have been devised around faculty sabbatical opportunities.
- Fellowship funding is expected to come from a variety of sources — sponsoring agencies, an APSA program, and potentially, sending institutions.
- Specific placement arrangements may be tailored to the individual candidates.
