The AMS Senior Named Scholarships

The American Meteorological Society (AMS) administers senior undergraduate scholarships established in memory of a loved one or to honor an individual’s contributions to the sciences. Those students who are entering their final year of undergraduate study are eligible to apply. These scholarships are intended to help further the education of outstanding students who are pursuing degrees in the atmospheric and related oceanic or hydrologic sciences. The scholarship programs will award $2000 to $10,000 to the winners.

Founded in 1919, The American Meteorological Society advances the atmospheric and related sciences, technologies, applications, and services for the benefit of society.

Eligibility:

Candidate must these eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be entering their final year of undergraduate study in the fall of 2017 and provide evidence of acceptance as a full-time student at an accredited U.S. institution at the time of the award.
  • Applicants must be pursuing a degree in the atmospheric or related sciences.
  • Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0-point scale.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or hold permanent resident status. No age restriction exists.

Financial Aid and Award Money:

  • The number of awards and stipend amounts vary depending on sponsorship.
  • For the school year beginning in the fall of 2017, 22 scholarship awards are available, ranging from $2000 to $10,000.

Application Deadline:

The application deadline is February 3, 2017.
