Akin Gump Strauss Hauer& Feld LLP is pleased to announce the Akin Gump/Robert Strauss Scholarship program (the “Strauss Scholarship”). The program is available for two outstanding second-year law students at U.S. law schools to offset expenses for their third year of law school.The firm is continually seeking candidates who demonstrate excellence and who can bring diverse viewpoints and experiences to the firm and we have developed the Strauss Scholarship to advance this effort. Through the program, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer& Feld LLP provides a $25,000 scholarship to two deserving candidates.

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer& Feld LLP is one of the world’s largest law firms, headquartered in Washington, D.C., is an American international law firm and the most profitable lobbying firm in the United States.The firm was founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1945 by Robert Strauss and Richard Gump. It maintains a large presence in Texas with a total of five offices in the state.

Eligibility:

To be eligible to be considered for the Strauss Scholarship, the applicant must:

  • Be enrolled in and in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school with an anticipated graduation date of 2019 at the time of application.
  • Recipients must participate in and complete the firm’s summer associate program following their second year of law school.
  • Applicants may not be the recipient of a similar diversity award from another law firm.

Supporting Documents:

The applicant must submit the following materials in order to be considered:

  • A resume or CV
  • Law school transcript
  • Cover letter required.
  • A personal statement (no more than 750 words) describing the applicant’s demonstrated academic and leadership achievements and commitment to diversity
  • A legal writing sample
  • Contact information for three academic or professional references

Application Deadline:

Applications for the program will be accepted, and considered on a rolling basis, between July 1, 2017, and September 29, 2017.
