The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) is calling for applications for visiting fellowships for historical research. The program is open to creative and performing artists, writers, film makers, journalists, and other persons whose goals are to produce imaginative, non-formulaic works dealing with pre-20th-century American history.The Society’s goal in sponsoring this program is to multiply and improve the ways in which an understanding of history is communicated to the American people. The fellowships will provide the recipients with the opportunity for a period of uninterrupted research, reading, and collegial discussion at the Society, located in Worcester, Massachusetts. The stipend will be $1,850 for fellows residing off campus.The stipend will have the room fee deducted from the $1850 stipend (Room fees range from $700 to $500 per month.)
The American Antiquarian Society was founded in 1812 by Revolutionary War patriot and printer Isaiah Thomas, is both a learned society and a major independent research library. The AAS library today houses the largest and most accessible collection of books, pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers, periodicals, music, and graphic arts material printed through 1876 in what is now the United States. AAS was presented with the 2013 National Humanities Medal by President Obama in a ceremony at the White House.

Financial Aid and Award Money:
- At least three fellowships will be awarded for residents of four weeks at the Society at any time during the period January 1 through December 31.
- For fellows who reside on campus in the Society’s scholars’ housing, located next to the main library building, the stipend will have the room fee deducted from the $1850 stipend. (Room fees range from $700 to $500 per month.)
- The stipend will be $1,850 for fellows residing off campus. Fellows will not be paid a travel allowance.
