The Cheryl D. Conkling Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Baton Rouge Area Foundation is pleased to announce The Cheryl D. Conkling Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of “Cheryl D”, a brilliant student and graduated Summa Cum Laude from college. The program is available to graduating high school seniors from Windsor, Colorado, Conroe, Texas and Wilkinson County, Mississippi. The purpose of the program is to support students who have overcome physical hardships and have a demonstrated love of education. The foundation will award the scholarship of $12,000 amount for eight semesters.

The Baton Rouge Area Foundation was created in 1964, has one simple goal of the program is to help philanthropists pursue their causes for bettering the lives of the people of South Louisiana

Eligibility:

Scholarships are provided to graduating high school seniors. Preference will be given to students with hearing or other physical impairments, financial need and students from Windsor, Colorado, Conroe, Texas; and Wilkinson County, Mississippi.

Supporting Documents:

In addition to submitting the online application, applicants must submit the following:

  • Transcript
  • ACT/SAT
  • Academic resume
  • Personal statement or essay
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Proof of financial need – FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) showing your Expected Family Contribution (EFC)

Candidates may also send their Letters of Recommendation directly at scholarships-at-braf.org.

Financial Aid and Award money:

  • Subject to the availability of funds, the Scholarship Committee will determine the number of scholarships awarded each year. Scholarship awards are $1,500 per semester (fall and spring only) for eight semesters or $12,000.
  • Renewal: To maintain the scholarship, the recipient must maintain a minimum 2.0 overall GPA each semester. At the end of each semester, the recipient must provide the Foundation with an official transcript and proof of full-time enrollment for the next semester.

Application Deadline:

Applications must be submitted by March 1. All applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decisions within two months of the due date.
