Contests don’t get any easier than “The 2016 Annual AU Student Essay Contest”. Just write an essay and you could be the next winner. Americans United for Separation of Church and State is pleased to offer its annual essay contest. The contest is open for all United States high-school seniors and undergraduate students. Three winners will get the chance to receive the award amount as $500, $250 and $100.
Americans United for Separation of Church and State was founded in 1947. AU is dedicated to preserving the constitutional principle of church-state separation as the only way to ensure religious freedom for all Americans.
Eligibility:
- Open to all United States high-school seniors and undergraduate students
- Past winners, finalists, employees and board members of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and members of their families are not eligible to participate
How to Apply:
- For applying the scholarship, the candidates must write an essay on the following topic:
Write an essay that explains why the separation of church and state is integral to preserving religious freedom in America’s pluralistic society.
- Include at least one primary source to support your thesis. You may also reference current events, U.S. history, and your personal experiences.
Essay Guidelines:
- 750-1,000 Words
- Double-spaced, Times New Roman
- Essays must include in-text citations and a bibliography
- Include a cover page with: full name, email address, postal address, grade level, school name and address, and name of faculty advisor that can verify the authenticity of the essay
