With great pleasure, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University is announcing the availability of Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program.? The fellowship program is open to scholars, scientists, and artists work on individual projects, or in clusters, to generate new research, publications, art, and more. Fellowship supports the work of 50 leading artists and scholars and has rapidly become one of the most competitive programs of its kind in the world, with an acceptance rate of only 3 percent each year. The scholars will get stipends up to $77,500 for one year with additional funds for project expenses.
Today, the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University is dedicated to creating and sharing transformative ideas across the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Since our founding in 1999, many Harvard faculty members have participated in the Fellowship Program and pursued individual projects within the multidisciplinary and international community of fellows.
Eligibility:
The eligibility criteria are given below:
- Eligibility for Individual Humanists and Social Scientists:
- Scholars in any field with a doctorate or appropriate terminal degree at least two years prior to appointment (by December 2016) in the area of the proposed project are eligible to apply.
- Only scholars who have published at least two articles in refereed journals or edited collections or a monograph are eligible to apply.
- Eligibility for Individual Creative Artists:
- Applicants in creative arts cannot be students in doctoral or master’s programs at the time of application
- Creative Writers:
- Fiction or nonfiction, applicants must have any of the following: one or more published books, contract for the publication of a book-length manuscript, or at least three shorter works (longer than newspaper articles) published.
- Professionals interested in writing about their work experiences should apply in the category of nonfiction.
- Journalists:
- Applicants in this genre are required to have worked professionally as a journalist for at least five years.
- Playwrights/Screenwriters:
- Applicants in this genre must have a significant body of independent work in the form. This will include, most typically, a play or screenplay produced or under option.
- Film and Video Artists:
- Applicants in the areas of film and video must have a body of independent work of significant achievement.
- Such work will typically have been exhibited in galleries or museums, shown in film or video festivals, or broadcast on television or radio.
- Musicians:
- Applicants in music composition to have a Ph.D. or D.M.A.
- Theater Performers:
- Applicants must have a significant body of work characterized by originality, reach, and mastery of technique.
- Visual Artists:
- Applicants must show strong evidence of achievement, with a record of at least five years of work as a professional artist, including participation in several curated group shows and at least two professional solo exhibitions.
- Eligibility for Individual Natural Scientists and Mathematicians:
- Scholars in any field with a doctorate in the area of the proposed project by December 2016.
- Only scholars who have published at least two articles in journals are eligible to apply.
- Eligibility for Groups of Humanists and Social Scientists:
- All members of a group applying in the Humanities and Social Sciences must have earned their doctorate by December 2016.
- Scholars who have published at least two articles in journals or edited collections or one refereed journal or a monograph are eligible to apply.

Supporting Documents:
You will be required to submit the following:
- A letter of intent (one to three pages) describing the group’s focus and aims
- A background info sheet on each applicant
- A copy of each participant’s curriculum vitae
Financial Aid and Award Money:
- They have funded stipends up to $77,500 for one year with additional funds for project expenses. Some support for relocation expenses is provided where relevant.
- Fellows will also receive office or studio space and access to libraries and other resources of Harvard University during the fellowship year, which extends from early September 2018 through May 31, 2019.
- Visual, film and video artists may apply to come for either one or two semesters. In the event that they come for one semester, the stipend is $38,750.
Application Deadline:
- The deadline to apply as a cluster is May 15, 2017.
- Deadline for individual applicants for the 2018–2019 Fellowship Year
- The deadline for individual applications in the creative arts, humanities, and social sciences is September 14, 2017.
- For applications in the natural sciences and mathematics, the deadline is October 5, 2017.
