Through a partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the National Geographic Society made possible “Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship” Program.Candidates with demonstrated experience and talent in storytelling and must have completed at least an undergraduate degree. Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides opportunities for U.S. citizens to participate in an academic year of overseas travel and storytelling in one, two, or three countries on a globally significant theme. Fellows will receive funds for travel, a living stipend, and health benefits as well as a modest professional allowance for materials and reporting expenses.
The National Geographic Society (NGS), headquartered in Washington, D.C., United States, is one of the largest non-profit scientific and educational institutions in the world. Founded in 1888, its interests include geography, archaeology and natural science, the promotion of environmental and historical conservation, and the study of world culture and history.
Eligibility:
Scholarship Applicants must meet the following criteria
- Applications will be accepted for Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowships in any country to which there is an active Fulbright U.S.
- Candidates from all fields are encouraged to apply
- Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience and talent in storytelling.
- Candidates must have completed at least an undergraduate degree by the commencement of the Fulbright award.

Supporting Documents:
For consideration, applicants must provide the following documents
- Statement of Grant Purpose: This document of no more than three (3) pages should outline who, what, when, where, why, and how of your Fulbright project proposal.
- Affiliation Letter: Fulbrighters undertaking study/research awards affiliated with host country universities or other types of host country organizations.
- Resume and Digital Storytelling Portfolio: Applications must include a current, one-page resume. In addition to a resume, applications must also include a storytelling portfolio which consists of work samples, a portfolio narrative and self-assessment of specific skills related to digital storytelling ( the strict two-page limit for portfolio narrative and self-assessment).
- Personal Statement: This one-page narrative will give the reviewers a picture of the applicant as an individual. It is an opportunity for the applicant to tell the committee more about the trajectory that he/she has followed and what plans he/she has for the future.
- Recommendations: Applicants must submit three recommendation letters as part of the application.
- Transcripts: The application must include a complete academic record of the applicant’s higher education experience.
Financial Aid and Award Money:
- All Storytellers will receive standard Fulbright Program benefits, including funds for travel, a living stipend, and health benefits as well as a modest professional allowance for materials and reporting expenses.
- Living stipends will be calculated based on host-country cost-of-living indices.
- In addition, National Geographic Society mentoring draws from a range of experts in many disciplines, including researchers, explorers, regional specialists, and storytellers.
- National Geographic will also provide editorial mentorship for Storytellers during their Fulbright grant period.
