AEL Collegiate Essay Contest

Have an opinion on United States Political Affairs? Want to share your thoughts for a chance at up to $2500? Enter in Americanism Educational Leaders Collegiate Essay Contest as it is a perfect opportunity for undergraduate students to express their equally strong belief in American exceptionalism. The essay contest is sponsored by The Americanism Educational Leaders and Pepperdine University Libraries. Three winners will be chosen, and they will get first prize of $2,500, second prize of $1,500 and third prize of $1,000 amount.

Pepperdine is a Christian university committed to the highest standards of academic excellence and Christian values, where students are strengthened for lives of purpose, service, and leadership.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be a current undergraduate college or university student.

How to Apply:

  • For applying the contest, the candidates must submit an essay between 1,500 and 2,000 words in length, typed and double-spaced. This year essay prompt is:

Describe your understanding of American exceptionalism, and, drawing an example from current events, discuss how that example demonstrates American exceptionalism in global relations, freedom, and/or democracy.

  • In addition to the completed essay, each student must submit a brief biography

Submitting Details:

After completing the essay, it should be emailed to AEL-at-pepperdine.edu

Award Amount:

Awards are as follows:

  • First Prize: $2,500
  • Second Prize: $1,500
  • Third Prize: $1,000

Application Deadline:

You can submit your essay on or before August 31, 2016.
