2017 Equal Justice Works Fellowship

Equal Justice Works Fellowship is highly competitive and it is sponsored by Equal Justice Works organization. Equal Justice Works Fellowships provide the opportunity for lawyers to positively impact vulnerable communities around the country. All Equal Justice Works Fellowships require a two-year commitment from the Fellow, the host organization and the sponsor(s) to complete the Fellowship term, which runs from September 2017 through August 2019. Equal Justice Works will provide up to $50,000 to the host organization toward that salary level.

The mission of Equal Justice Works is to create a just society by mobilizing the next generation of lawyers committed to equal justice. Equal Justice Works provides a continuum of programs that begin with incoming law school students and extend into later careers in the profession.

Eligibility:

  • You must be a third-year law student, a recent law school graduate, or an experienced private sector attorney who demonstrates a commitment to public interest law. Your law school must be an Equal Justice Works member law school.
  • You must identify a qualifying nonprofit host organization that will provide you with a full-time position upon receiving a Fellowship. Candidates and organizations can partner in any number of ways
  • Host organization must be willing to be your employer during the term of the two-year Fellowship as well as provide you with supervision, a workspace, employee health and fringe benefits, and the materials (computer, internet access, phone, etc.) that you will need to successfully complete your project.
  • Together with your host organization, you must design a new project, which focuses on legal advocacy on behalf of disenfranchised individuals, groups or issues not adequately represented in our legal system.

Award Amount:

  • Equal Justice Works will provide each host organization with up to $50,000 annually toward a Fellow’s salary. Salary must be agreed upon prior to submitting an application.
  • As an Equal Justice Works Fellow, you will become a member of the nation’s vibrant and prestigious public interest legal community.

To be considered, applications must be submitted online through the Equal Justice Works website no later than 8 p.m. EDT on September 16, 2016.
